My Family

The inspiration for this winter term is "My Family". What a beautiful theme! We started the term exploring the concept of "HOME" by creating tiny houses out of boxes of matches. This simple art project was a playful way to start the classes and the kids got engaged easily. They came up with different types of ideas for houses such as: haunted houses, bricked houses, castles and houses for little pets. Once the houses were ready, the kids imagined the "little person" that lived inside it. It was a pleasure to see how a simple object such as this could be an invitation to endless possibilities.

On the following weeks, each class was inspired by different members of their families.

Monday class honoured their grandparents!

Wednesday class honoured their families!

Thursday class honoured their siblings!

On Monday class, we talked about the yummy dishes that grandmas and grandpas cook for us! Our grandparents have such a positive influence in our family meals and traditions that the kids were inspired to create their gramparents' portraits using modeling clay on vintage ceramic plates and food trays!

Here are some of their cute responses to this question:

"What is your favourite gradma/grandpa's dish?

Eliana: Lentil soup and pancakes.

Asher: Pizza and Nutella hamantashen.

Kingston: Beverly's Chocolate cookies.

Aidan: Larry's burgers.

Marli: Pea soup.

Layla: Bubby really nice chicken soup.

Tali: Apple on a stick.

Mered: Noodle soup.

Sarah: Noodle soup and mashed potatoes.

Dana: Soup.

Wednesday Class has created "A Family Totem Pole"

Thursday Class has created mobiles inspired by their siblings!

As the term progresses, the students create more artworks inspired by their families. The studio is filling up with beautiful pieces that make me feel happy every time I enter this magical place.

I am excited to show you more amazing artworks in my next post!
