Dreamers in Violets - Soñadoras en Morados

“When Covid-19 hit, I couldn’t get to Mexico where I have been collaborating on a project for five years. To overcome my sense of loss, frustration and longing for connection, I began these paintings of women dreaming of Oaxaca. I recreated the magic of warm, starry nights animated by alebrijes — Oaxaca’s famous spirit animals carved in wood —and other elements inspired by Mexican surrealists.” Jazmin Sasky
